Hamburg / Giengen an der Brenz, 16 May 2024 – Mint Hydrogen, a developer and operator of green hydrogen refuelling stations, inaugurated its first refuelling location on the premises of the JET Mobility Hub on the A7 federal motorway in the presence of local dignitaries and representatives from JET Tankstellen Deutschland GmbH. This represents a significant milestone for Mint Hydrogen in its plans to roll out a hydrogen refuelling network, with sites along major transport routes across Germany.

“The opening of the first hydrogen refuelling station in the region is a good day for the Heidenheim district and the East Württemberg hydrogen region,” announced Peter Polta, district administrator of Heidenheim, at the opening. Furthermore, the Mint Hydrogen refuelling station is an enormous competitive advantage and an important ecological advance in times of climate protection, environmental regulations and rising fuel costs, adds Dieter Henle, mayor of the large district town of Giengen an der Brenz: “Combining ecology and economy is the guiding principle at our Giengen industrial park on the A7 motorway. Here, we incorporate green roofs, plantings, photovoltaic systems, environmentally friendly heating systems, and much more. The hydrogen refuelling station is a perfect fit for this setup. Achieving climate neutrality won’t happen overnight, nor can it be accomplished alone. That is why we maintain strong collaborations in the area of mobility, including the Hamburg-based company Mint Hydrogen.”

Integration into the JET Mobility Hub on the A7

The hydrogen refuelling station, located on the premises of the new JET Mobility Hub at Frostelstraße 2, is situated at the A7 motorway entrance. Companies in the Giengen Industrial Park and the surrounding area have easy and fast access to an emission-free energy source.

Oliver Reichert, Retail Manager Germany of JET Tankstellen Deutschland GmbH, commented: “The JET mobility hub in Giengen is a reference project for us. With the services offered at this new JET site, mobile people are simply better on the road – here they can charge electricity with JET Strom, refuel, get something to eat in the bistro, do their shopping and wash their vehicles in a modern roll-over car wash. The hydrogen refuelling station of our partner Mint Hydrogen now rounds off the range of services at this location and customers have another emission-free energy source available alongside JET Strom. Together, we are setting a sustainable and innovative example in the region.”

Through close collaboration with companies in the mobility sector, Mint Hydrogen plans to play a pivotal role in advancing the hydrogen economy in Germany. Clifford zur Nieden, CEO of Mint Hydrogen Germany GmbH, said: “Dependable refuelling infrastructure is essential for building a regional ecosystem for renewable hydrogen and is particularly crucial for the decarbonisation of heavy-duty transport.”

Mint Hydrogen has deployed refuelling station technology from Maximator Hydrogen GmbH and a payment terminal from Hectronic GmbH. In the field of hydrogen vehicles, the company collaborates with Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, Hylane, Keyou, Stellantis, and Arthur Bus.

The company plans to operate green hydrogen refuelling stations designed to serve public, local, and distribution transport in German metropolitan areas, as well as to serve long-distance transport along major transport routes. The proposed network will also include efficient fleet refuelling stations strategically located in industrial parks and commercial areas. Additional locations are expected to become operational soon.
